Dr. Richard Goodfellow

Hello,

I was fortunate enough to interview Toronto area TMJ dentist Dr. Richard Goodfellow (pictured above) because I had some very important questions to ask him about getting relief from TMJ related pain.

Many people suffer in pain for years. In fact, it's common for people to suffer for 2 years, 5 years or even 10 years or more. And this is in spite of them having gone to half a dozen or more doctors and specialists for help.

It doesn't seem to matter if it's headaches, migraines, facial pain, neck pain, jaw pain, or another type of pain. Many people are not getting the pain relief they need.

So one big quesiton I had for Toronto TMJ Dentist Dr. Goodfellow was,

"How Fast Is It Possbile To Get Long-Term Pain Relief?"

I respected his "no-hype" answer.

Quite frankly, there is no standard amount of time it takes. It depends on many factors which I will describe on this page. Beyond that, Dr. Goodfellow has prepared a...

Now, everyone's pain situation is different. But the real source of many people's pain is a structural and neuromuscular problem.

A TMJ (temporomandibular joint) disorder is a common example of this. This joint is located just in front of both ears where your skull bone meets your jaw bone.

Because of the many bones, ligaments, muscles and nerves that are related to this joint, this is considered the most complex joint in the body. Not only that, but these tissues related to the TMJ spread out from this joint to many, many areas of the head and body.

So, when damage occurs in one way or another to the TMJ, pain can be felt in other remote areas of the head or body in the form of headaches, migraines, neck pain or even back pain or numb hands.

There are many more TMJ symptoms. But the important point is that the complexity of the temporomandibular joint combined with all the remote areas where pain can be felt due to a TMJ disorder has resulted in many people not even being properly diagnosed with TMJ syndrome.

As A Result They Can Needlessly Suffer In Pain For Years!

Many doctors and specialists simply do not make the connection between a TMJ disorder and the various types of related pain and/or they are not trained in the complexities involved in treating a TMJ disorder.

Proper treatment that provides long-term pain relief begins with a proper diagnosis. so the diagnosis is the most important step.

Once Someone Gets A Complete and Proper Diagnosis,
Pain Relief can Be Fast!

Once proper treatment has begun, pain relief can be fast. "Fast pain relief" is a relative term. For an 18 year old with only a minor misalignment to the jaw, she may get pain relief in only a few weeks. That is because the minor amount of damage combined with her youth and overall state of good health means she would probably only require a small amount of treatment. However a 60 year old who started out with a jaw misalignment 35 years ago would likely need more treatment. The additional damge to tissues that has occured over time, the lenght of time she has been living with the tissue damage as well as the age and overall health level of the patient all play a role in the amount of treatment required. Make no mistake though. With a proper diagnosis and treatment plan from a Toronto TMJ denstist such as Dr. Goodfellow, virtually every patient can be helped. The amount of time it take to get the desired result will vary depending on the specific situaiton of each patient.
